WHO WILL REMEMBER THE PENNY?

Once a worthy monetary citizen, the penny has been relegated to junk-status; humiliated, beaten and kicked around like an old 8-track compilation cassette. A second-class monetary citizen that has been indiscriminately silenced and unjustly locked up in overcrowded glass jars, rudimentary piggy banks, barren shoeboxes and yes, even KFC plastic cups.
But a small group of avant-garde filmmakers are working hard to change all that by bringing together one million pennies to help create

The first film starring a CANADIAN PENNY.

The film, “The Hermitian Penny”, is a short story that follows the final days of a homeless Canadian Penny searching for its place within society.

FADE IN:

INT. ROOM – DAY

A dimly lit room. Our hero, the CANADIAN PENNY sits, waiting, locked up in the corner of a decomposing shoebox. The pungent smell of an old pair of sneakers that once took up residency still lingers in the air.

The Penny makes an attempt to scale the cardboard walls, quickly realizing it does not posses the required limbs one would need to crawl out with.

The Penny tries to cry. But, lacking necessary tear glands and vocal box, it cannot indulge in such a perfunctory task.

So, the Penny sits there, quiet, patient. All alone…
(To be continued)

This scene might sound like an excerpt from the film, but it’s not. The harsh reality is that situations like this are occurring everywhere and everyday to millions of Canadian pennies across the country.

Don’t turn a blind eye on these helpless penny prisoners. We can all do something to help.
